Nobody designs or develops for Internet Explorer unless they absolutely, positivity have to.
Unfortunately for enterprise, government and public sector projects you often don’t have much choice.
To give you a snapshot of the dark enterprise underbelly I dug this screenshot out of Google Analytics this week:
And here are the IE version stats, note IE6 still doing pretty well:
- IE 7.0 visits: 93,664
- IE 8.0 visits: 14,854
- IE 6.0 visits: 3,057
- IE 10.0 visits: 10
- IE 9.0 visits: 2
Sure, this is a staff Intranet site and the users hitting this are not using IE through choice, it’s all they have available to them. In fact I’d guarantee that most of them probably don’t care as long as it works.
But it has to work. Remember that.
