Weekend project – Andrea Mann’s new website

April 19, 2015 by Kimb Jones

I’ve known Andrea since we collaborated on the now-defunct England for Obama website back in 2008 – she’s a writer and musician but her old website was still very heavy on the ‘musician’ side of things:

Andreas old site that I made back in 2008

Although visually appealing this old site wasn’t responsive and had very limited features due to being a custom theme with no options panel (it was also written to 2008 WordPress coding standards).

Her new site was a quick weekend project that took just a couple of days work to get right. She needed more flexibility and a brighter and cleaner theme:

New site, cleaner, leaner and more focused on Andreas writing

To keep things inside a tight budget and perform a fast turnaround the new site was built around a modified premium theme rather than being a fully custom build. This allowed Andrea to get her new site updated in less than a week with very little fuss (apart from some weird hosting problems that are better left off-the-record).

Some lovely words from Andrea:

Kimb did a great job transforming my site for me. As I needed it doing fairly quickly, I was offered a range of themes to choose from, and found just the sort I needed. I’m really happy with the look and feel of the new site – plus the flexibility I now have to update and change it myself, which was a big factor for me.

Friday inspiration – Hugo Fernandes at WC Europe 2014

April 17, 2015 by Kimb Jones

I’ve been meaning to share this since October last year – finally noticed it was on WordPress TV:

I was the MC for this session and although a little under-attended it was easily one of the best talks of the weekend in Room 2.

From the talk description:

How can we develop creative and imaginative solutions to business problems? How can I do that if I’m a freelancer and work alone? How can I generate ideas in a team environment?
More than a theoretical and subjective talk, Hugo Fernandes provides a close collaborative session where participants perform creative exercises and learn about tools and mental processes to use in the search of best ideas.
