Using a CDN (content delivery network) for the new site was a forgone conclusion, as we assumed it would help us speed things up. But, after testing with a few different CDNs, we uncovered some surprising results.

Not so long ago we shifted the main Make Do agency site so it used ‘HTTPS everywhere’ and a CDN. SSL performance was the main hurdle we had to come to terms with during the transition – we did however decide keeping both a CDN and SSL was the best option.
It’s 12 months this weekend since the first WordCamp Sheffield. In case you were wondering there won’t be one this year. Maybe next year. We don’t know yet!

Since WordCamp Sheffield a year ago there has been a number of other UK-based WordCamp events (London, Manchester, Birmingham). We don’t feel there is currently any need to pull together another single-day ‘medium’ sized WordCamp in Sheffield with so much already happening on our small island.
This doesn’t mean WordCamp Sheffield is dead. It’s just resting up. We will be back. Bigger and better.
Our monthly WordPress Sheffield meetup is still going strong. It happens the 2nd Tuesday of the month and we’ve got some new and awesome speakers planned for the next couple of months as well as a 5-year anniversary bash planned for August!
Also don’t forget our sister meetup WordPress Leeds – I’m not involved in the planning or marketing of this one any more but I still try and attend every month.
