I got back from Leiden a few days ago and it was the most inspiring and insightful WordCamp since I attended my first one back in Cardiff in 2009.
Volunteer duties
I worked as a volunteer (AKA ‘Smurf’ because of the garish-blue t-shirts we had to wear) and got to meet some great people and really feel like part of the event.
My first role was speaker registration which was a great job because I got to put faces to names and interact with the speakers before they ran off into the mix of 600+ attendees. I also managed to take photos of most of the speakers on arrival.

It was so BIG
I left WordCamp Europe with a new sense of scale about what a WordCamp can be. The largest conference/event I’ve ever attended before was NA Conf in January and this had a very similar feeling of scale.
The venue was perfect, the speakers were well balanced and insightful and the people were all amazing.
I’d love to write more, but I have my own conference to organise, which starts tomorrow.
WordCamp London
Finally, I’ll be at WordCamp London in just a few short weeks. If anyone wants to hook up I’ve offered the organisers some free ‘Theme fundamentals’ training sessions for anyone into WordPress and wanting to get started making their own themes. Stay tuned for more details or get in touch.
